Shortly after finishing my time at university, I was contacted with an idea for a necklace inspired by the theories of Transactional Analysis.

To start, I did not have a lot of experience with the premiss, but given my interest in the subject, I began asking questions, for those who don’t know Transactional Analysis is a powerful tool in therapy for understanding and improving human relationships. Dr Eric Berne developed it in the 1950s and 60s and explores how people communicate and interact with one another.

The three rings represent the three ego states: adult, parent and child ego states. In therapy, people learn to understand and untangle these rings.

After my learning, I began designing the necklace, treating the premise and the symbolism with the respect it deserves.

I knew that simple was the way to go with such a unique idea; using the three rings to make the shape that the client and I had talked about, I kept in contact, showing them all the different patterns, textures and shapes we could use to make the outcome as aesthetically pleasing as possible as I knew I did my job right they would be wearing the necklace all the time.

Now, I’d never worked with this much silver, so I was very nervous starting this work, but now I’ve had a chance to experiment with it, I’ll be utilising it more often.
